Let’s be honest when it comes to kissing and being a good kisser. This is not something that we get instructions on.

And I know for myself, I dreamt about my first kiss so many times I even practiced on my pillow, I wanted to make sure I would know how to do it.

I was not prepared for my first french kiss. I didn’t know what I was doing, and that early experience sucked. The fact that it was his first kiss as well didn’t help. The result was a wet face and a slobbery experience.

I thought there was something wrong with me until I kissed my next boyfriend and realized it probably was just because he didn’t know what to do. And I had no clue on how to instruct him to be a good kisser.

No matter how attractive somebody is poor hygiene, aka bad breath is going to be like a massive turn off the moment the kiss begins. I know it’s a tricky situation to be in. I mean, nobody wants to have bad breath. And it’s tough to tell somebody, hey, you know, your breath isn’t fresh.

Always keep a little breath spray with essential oils or mints nearby, in case you need to pop one in your mouth or theirs before the kiss begins.

KISSING BASICS

When it comes to kissing, lips are critical. Soft pillowy lips feel so much better than tight, dry lips.

So relaxing and hydrating the lips makes for much better kissing.

Think of kissing as an intricate dance, where you take a step backward and forward. Rather than shoving your tongue into somebody else’s mouth, otherwise it becomes a sword fighting.

Kissing is a call and response. The magic happens when you don’t know who’s like leading and following. And you’re all into the exploring and finding ways of surprising each other.

Remember to lean into a kiss but not attack your partner.

THE 7 KISSING STYLES

We’ve all had good kissing experiences and some not so great. Ever wondered why some kisses are so memorable and feel amazing, while others repulse you or turn you off? It’s all about matching your animals

1. The Whale.

When a whale kisses you, it’s tongue breaches out and flips suddenly in your mouth. It’s all about power and strength. Whales are known to be creative and compassionate.

2. The Snake.

You know you are kissing a snake when they flick and undulate their tongue in your mouth. They are about passion and primal energy. Snakes are typically balanced and impulsive.

3. The Dog.

If you’ve got slobber all over your face, you know a dog has kissed you. They are affectionate and juicy. Dogs are generous and loyal.

4. The Turtle.

When all you feel is the tip of the tongue probing your mouth, then it’s a turtle, sticking its neck out. They are easy going and can make you feel at home easily. Turtles are wise and patient.

5. The Rabbit.

If you’ve been kissed with rapid frenzy, then it’s a rabbit for sure.  They are notorious for nose bonking and fast action. Rabbits are agile and dexterous.

6. The Cat.

When your tongue is taken on an intricate dance, then it’s a cat kissing you. They love face-rubbing and purring. Cats have very individual personalities and are mysterious.

7. The Fish.

You know it’s a fish when all you get are pooched out soft lips and there’s no tongue involved. They can smooch to no end and like to be in a pair. Fish are happy and intelligent.

Remember kissing is fun and now that you are so much more versed in all it’s diversity, try kissing like a different animal for the day, and see the kind of feedback you get. And for the most fun ever, try kissing different people, and identifying their animal. Does the style match the personality type? Which do you like best?

RECIPE FOR A MEMORABLE KISS

Here’s your 4-step plan to up your kissing game:

1. Take your time.

2. Vary the pressure.

3. Use your tongue wisely.

4. Tease.

Approach kissing with playfulness and joy. This will make it so much more light and fun for both the giver and the receiver. Make sure you also know your partner’s likes and dislikes because we are all different.

And remember when it comes to kissing, it’s not just all about your mouth, add your hands so that you can incorporate other body parts into the kiss. Use your hands to gently stroke the side of their face or the back of their neck. There are so many variations here, and it makes the kissing so much more multi-dimensional and so much more pleasurable.
